Newtownmountkennedy, Co. Wicklow
Known as "the Augusta of Europe", the
400 acre Druids Glen estate is one of the finest
resorts in Europe. It comprises two quite spectacular
golf courses and clubhouse, a five star Marriott
Hotel, leisure centre and health & fitness
spa and a wildlife preserve. All the facilities
are unashamedly luxurious, designed to create
a haven of parkland tranquillity nestling amongst
the most magnificent countryside of the Garden
of Ireland – Co. Wicklow.
Delivering a world class performance is nothing
new to this fine resort and its management. Opened
in 1995, Druids Glen hosted the Irish Open on
four consecutive occasions between 1996 and 1999.
In 2001 and again in 2005 it has been honoured
with the highly prestigious "European Golf
Course of the Year" Award by the International
Association of Golf Tour Operators.
In 2004 it was also presented with the Ireland's
Best Award for Service Excellence for a record
third year in a row. It is the first and only
golf club in Ireland to achieve the prestigious
award and joins a select group of just twelve
top businesses who made the grade for a third
year in a row.
The Druids Glen Resort lies on the grounds that formed part of the Woodstock Estate, part of Sir Wentworth’s extensive landholding in the 17th Century. The centrepiece of the estate is the stately Woodstock House, which has been magnificently refurbished to host the clubhouse. In the early 1990s a consortium of Irish businessmen bought the estate and carefully planned and developed the golf resort in keeping with the stunning landscape in which it is situated. The Druids Glen name originates from the pre-Christian Druid’s altar that lies near the 12th Green.
